Carolyn Carr’s Opening Reception: August 27

American Landscapes and Portraits

OSMOS Station is pleased to announce an exhibition of works by Carolyn Carr, artist-in-residence at OSMOS Station for the month of August. Carr’s installation of photographs and paintings, entitled American Landscapes and Portraits, borrows its sentiment from an illustrated book entitled Healing Trees by Ben Page to remind humans to advocate for authentic participation in the sensory realms of nature.

Carr’s works capture and reflect awareness, transition, migration, and at the same time, seem untethered from the specifics of time and a place. Her photographs and paintings, are both figurative and abstract. Her landscapes are portraits and her portraits are landscapes. Her color choices have personality and her pictures express mood. A tree, a flower bed or a meadow become abstracted interlocking rings in a collapsed color field on flax linen.

A Friends Garden, 2021. Chromogenic print mounted to acrylic with UV coating, aluminum back frame. 48 x 36 inches.

Carolyn Carr is an American artist born and raised in the South, who recently relocated to Meredith in
Delaware County, New York. OSMOS Station is a community-oriented artist studio and residency in the Western Catskills of New York with a commitment to bringing new artists to Stamford and Delaware County, as well as offering workshops to foster skills for locals in the art industry.
