first time Winter CSA

Dear Catskills Agrarian Alliance friends & supporters!
As we approach the end of the growing season, Catskills Agrarian Alliance team reaffirms our commitment to regional food justice and sovereignty. This year, we are constantly reminded of the enormous strength in moving as a community. As we pull the last of our crops from the fields, shift our focus to our first ever Winter CSA, and pause for a moment of reflection, we hold a sense of joy and fulfillment, not just in the amount of food we’ve produced and distributed, but also in the partnerships and relationships we’ve deepened along the way.

 

Our work in 2023 has exemplified this commitment:

  • In partnership with local family farms, DCMO BOCES, Rural Health Network, and SUNY Delhi, we completed our two year project and successfully distributed 7,000 pounds of locally processed tomato sauce to eleven local schools, feeding 42,000 kids.

 

  • We’re working with Cornell Cooperative Extension as part of a project that connects regional food hubs across New York State so that we might increase our resilience and efficiency while increasing our capacity to serve more NY farms.

 

  • The 607 CSA, with the help of Myers Produce and Essex Food Hub, delivered delicious and nutritious local food to approximately 700 households in NYC and upstate, securing over $450,000 for our partner farms and producers.

 

  • We’ve partnered with Gentle Time Farm and Choy Division to develop Choy Commons (a collective that fosters relationships between AAPI farmers and mutual aid organizations to provide culturally-relevant produce to those in need) and have expanded our own mutual aid efforts to reach more communities affected by food apartheid.

 

  • We were fortunate to partner with the Anne Saxelby Legacy Fund, who provided Star Route Farm with two stellar farm apprentices this season.

 

  • We’re continuing to advance West Branch Commons, our inaugural community-driven land access project in partnership with American Farmland Trust, as we work on creating our self and community governance.

The 607 CSA

will be offering our first ever Winter Veggie Share! Delivering bi-weekly from December 5 through May 21 (skipping January 2). A big bag of delicious veggies grown in the Catskills, including storage vegetables, greens, dried legumes, and a selection of other delectable seasonal vegetables!
