What is Porchfest?
It’s a bunch of musicians on porches, sharing their music with the community – all at the same time! Folks walk from place to place, with their beach chairs or picnic blankets, and enjoy all types of music. It’s laid back, it’s free and it’s a good time! Live music is good for the soul – both the musician and the audience. There couldn’t be a better time to experience this as a community.
Since 2007 Porchfests have been hosted by communities all over North America. The tradition began here in New York State out in Ithaca. Since then several towns around the state have held their own Porchfests… Buffalo, Rochester, Rhinebeck, Binghamton just to name a few! There are hundreds around the U.S. and Canada. The idea behind the event is to bring local musicians and neighbors together for a day of musical community celebration. There are no tickets, no reserved seating – just folks walking and plopping down on lawns to hear great music!
The Roxbury Arts Group is putting out a call to area musicians to come out and play at the event. The Arts Group will match performers to porches…. unless a musician and residence/business owner already know they would like to be paired up. In that case, just let us know on your submission form. Performances will be acoustic or near-acoustic. Think stripped down sound as the goal is to be heard to the sidewalk and not down the block. Musicians and porches will be matched based on several logistics such as number of musicians, route and genres.
Residents & Businesses along Route 23 / Main Street, within the Village of Stamford, who would enjoy hosting a performance on their front porch, front lawn, front stoop, etc should complete a submission form. We’ve included a list of “PORCH DO’s and DON’Ts” for a better idea of what hosting a performance would look like for the home or business owner. Scroll past the submission forms to check them out.
The Arts Group will provide volunteers for assisting hosts and attendees with information around town and with clean-up after the event. The Roxbury Arts Group will also cover liability insurance for all participating residences and businesses.
